Syntax for Using the MayaMemex Search Engine™
1. As a general rule it is better to keep your Search query as simple as possible. Use single words whenever you can to produce the best and most inclusive search. When searching for proper names, enter LAST NAME ONLY and then narrow your search. The only exceptions are common names such as Smith, Brown or King. Please take a look and use the syntax below:

2. When searching for dates, please use the following style (quotation marks are not needed):
June 25 or June 25 1940
Simple Statements:
Or : Tikal or Calakmul Returns all events that include either Tikal or Calakmul (more results).
And : Tikal and CalakmulReturns only those events that include both Tikal and Calakmul.
+ : Pakal + Palenque + TombSearch connections of any three persons, places or things.
Double-Quote : "largest Maya city"Search for an exact phrase in which you're interested.
Combination : Pakal or Palenque + Temple OR Pakal and "Temple of Inscriptions"
Complex Statement:
Nested: Teotihuacán and (Tikal or Calakmul) and (May + 5 or "June 6")

Hints and Useful Information
Do not use commas, symbols, punctuation or abbreviations. If the user wishes to scan all of the events in a particular year, simply type in the year and hit enter. After it has been located, scroll through the timeline at will. The user may then click on any item to view its associated audio, video or photographic material.
