Province of Galicia, Spain - La Coruna to Pontevedra

Jose Maria Perez-Vicente was born August 19, 1876 at or near La Guardia (A Guarda), in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain. The back of an old photograph indicates he served in "La Guardia Espana - Provincia Pontevedra" during the Spanish-American War of 1898. He and several of his brothers later settled in Puerto Rico. I find it interesting that Santiago de Compostela, the legendary pilgrimage site associated with the death and burial of St. James, a place I have always wanted to visit, is not far from La Guardia (A Guarda). |
